[NOW IN STOCK] BAGSINPROGRESS - NEW ARRIVALS
New arrivals from New York-based Chiharu Hayashi’s line “BAGSINPROGRESS” are now available at Nepenthes New York. Beloved for their minimal design, these utilitarian designs are perfectly suited to a life on-the-go.
Chiharu’s journey began with a deep affection for vintage bags. She prized no-name industrial packs and old-school military gear for their straightforwardness and commitment to functionality. Over time, she noticed small points she could improve on: a pocket here or a zip pouch there. Starting out with a simple sewing machine, Chiharu began slight alterations. After the ideas sufficiently evolved, she contacted a factory in Manhattan’s Garment District to begin production on her own lane.
Today, BAGSINPROGRESS produces across both the United States and Japan. Japanese facilities are used for their accuracy and stringent controls, while the US factories are more nimble, able to accommodate smaller order sizes and giving a unique “looseness” to the final product. Combined, these dual production locations allow the bags to have a unique identity that appeals to customers throughout Europe, the United States, and Japan.
BAGSINPROGRRESS’ first priority is to fabricate items that can be used for years to come. Products are built to be used on a daily basis, regardless of season, gender, age, occupation, occasion,or style, etc. To achieve this, the product is kept as simple as possible, focusing on practicality over trend. By virtue of this simplicity, the BAGSINPROGRESS target customer can be anyone, from mothers with small children to designers carrying sketches and equipment.
