Alden Leisure Handsewn Loafer - Shell Cordovan

The Alden Leisure Handsewn Loafer in #8 Shell Cordovan and Black Shell Cordovan are now in stock at Nepenthes New York.

Since its founding in 1884 by Charles H. Alden, the Alden Shoe Company's commitment to superior craftsmanship and comfort has earned it a revered place in American footwear. Iconic designs like the Leisure Handsewn Loafer, Indy Boot, and Plain Toe Blucher embody Alden's dedication to tradition and style.

The Alden Leisure Handsewn Loafer is a prime example of fine craftsmanship. The company constructs each pair using Alden's traditional handsewn moccasin technique. The #8 Shell Cordovan (986) and Black Shell Cordovan (987) models showcase the same meticulous attention to detail, with the luxurious Shell Cordovan leather offering a touch of elegance.

The loafers' Shell Cordovan leather is sourced exclusively from Chicago's Horween Leather Company, renowned since 1905 for its leather quality. Horween's vegetable-tanned equine shells improve with age and acquire a unique patina. Rather than creasing and cracking, it develops a unique rippled look.

The name "#8" refers to the eight times these shells are submerged in Horween's secret red aniline dye. After eight dips, the leather achieves a deep, rich hue that can appear almost black at first glance.

The Alden Leisure Handsewn Loafer in #8 Shell Cordovan (986) and Black Shell Cordovan (987) symbolize Alden and Horween Leather's rich history, superior materials, and expert construction.
