[SPECIAL RELEASE] ENGINEERED GARMENTS X SCHOTT NYC - RELEASING 10.30.21

For the first time ever, Engineered Garments has teamed up with legendary American clothing manufacturer Schott NYC. In this remarkable collection, two distinctly New York brands come together to reimagine the classic motorcycle jacket.

In 1928, Irving Schott - intrigued by the burgeoning motorcycle culture - designed a rugged jacket specifically for this gutsy mode of transportation, manufacturing the first batch in a Lower East Side Manhattan basement and naming it “Perfecto” after his favorite brand of cigars. The double breasted Perfecto quickly became a household name and the jacket of choice for riders. Since then, Schott outerwear has been worn by soldiers, gearheads and punk rockers alike - and is synonymous with a daring, American spirit of adventure.

This collaboration, which has been over two years in the making, began with a visit by Engineered Garments designer Daki Suzuki to Schott’s New Jersey facility, touring the company’s massive archive. Out of the countless pieces available, including car coats and bomber jackets, Daiki ultimately chose two classic models: the single and double rider jackets.

The Engineered Garments x Schott NYC Single Rider Jacket is inspired by the Schott 641, sometimes referred to as the café racer jacket, while the Engineered Garments x Schott NYC Double Rider Jacket sources its references from the timeless Schott 613 Perfecto.

The Double Rider Jacket features some notable modifications: the Perfecto’s buckle strap and front snap pocket are removed. Meanwhile, a signature Engineered Garments collar tab on the left lapel is added. In contrast, The Single Rider Jacket keeps its traditional style, with its trusty adjustable snap tab collar.

Both versions are manufactured from cowhide and feature distinctive EG detailing. Five zippers are arrayed across the front of each jacket, outfitted with contrasting silver hardware on the zipper and zip pulls. Note also the single snap closure below the center zipper seam. And finally, don’t overlook the sunset style back paneling, which allows for an increased range of motion.

These special products carry with them a rugged sense of exploration - sturdy enough to go anywhere and do anything. Don’t miss this momentous collaboration between two singularly New York institutions.
