[DEEP DIVE] Bedford Jacket Vol. I

Welcome back to "DEEP DIVE" where we take a look into the inspiration behind some of our favorite Engineered Garments pieces. In this installation, we are featuring the "Bedford Jacket", a staple of the Engineered Garments repertoire.

The Bedford Jacket is one of the most beloved items in the Engineered Garments catalog.
Skirting the border between dress jacket and chore coat, this piece combines the best of both. One of the jacket’s major charm points are the removable buttons, fastened to the body of the jacket with metal ringlets - designed for factory workers who may not have had the time or skill to sew on replacement buttons.

Another sign of the jacket’s utilitarian nature is the top stitching on the yoke front, alongside additional stitching on the jacket front and jacket side front. Commonly found on uniforms and workwear, additional stitches on stress points allows for greater durability - increasing the life of the garment, as opposed to the more delicate blind stitches on dress wear.

However, the elegance of the jacket’s silhouette prevents it from being classified wholly on the side of workwear. The peak label and two piece sleeves add sophistication to an otherwise casual garment.

A perfect hybrid, the Bedford Jacket is an appropriate solution for almost any situation. Besides, as designer Daiki Suzuki points out, wearing formal attire - even in the workplace - is becoming more and more rare: meaning that the Bedford Jacket can support a day in the office just as easily as a Sunday afternoon in the park.

The Bedford Jacket is available the following colorways:
Black Cotton Ripstop
Dark Navy Cotton Ripstop
Khaki Cotton Ripstop
Olive Cotton Ripstop
Black PC Hopsack
Grey PC Hopsack

The Bedford Jacket is available for purchase in-store and online.
