New Balance Made in USA 900V2 in Grey - now available online at nepenthesny.com In 1978, New Balance conceived a premium running shoe that could combine flexibility and support. Following four years of intensive development, the New Balance 990 debuted in 1982. The shoe’s high performance and price tag transformed it into an instant classic, kicking off an iconic saga that is 40 years and counting.

The 990v2 was released 16 years after its predecessor in 1998, retooling the 990’s uppers and integrating the high-tech materials that New Balance developed with Dupont Chemical. New Balance inserted ABZORB foam - initially developed for shock absorption on the railroad - inside an ENCAP sole, providing maximum pressure dispersion. The shoe also marked the first time the company reworked an existing design, a tradition that continues with this year’s 990v6.

Premium materials, including suede, nubuck, breathable mesh, and 3M reflective accenting, feature across the shoe. Under their Made In USA line, New Balance sources over 70% of each shoe’s manufacturing components from within the United States.
